Melbourne NDIS Accommodation Support FAQs

  • What is NDIS Accommodation Support?

Accommodation Support helps people with disabilities find and maintain living arrangements that promote safety, comfort, and independence. It includes supports such as SIL and SDA, depending on each person’s needs and goals.

  • What’s the difference between SIL and SDA?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) work hand in hand but cover very different parts of your NDIS plan.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) refers to the daily support you receive to help with personal care, household tasks, and building independence. It’s designed for participants with higher support needs who require help at home most of the time, including day and night support. This support can include help with cooking, cleaning, dressing, medication reminders, and learning new life skills. SIL funding focuses on the services and staff support you receive, not the property itself.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), on the other hand, covers the housing component. SDA homes are purpose-built or modified for people with significant functional or physical support needs. They may include accessible features such as wider doorways, ceiling hoists, reinforced bathrooms, or smart home technology. SDA funding is for the building or accommodation, not the daily supports provided inside it.

Some participants receive both types of funding. For example, SIL supports delivered within an SDA home, while others may access them separately depending on their individual needs and goals.

  • How do I know if I’m eligible for SIL or SDA?

Eligibility depends on your NDIS plan and support needs. Our team can help review your plan and coordinate with your NDIS planner to determine which accommodation options are right for you.

  • Do you provide support across all of Melbourne?

Yes. We provide accommodation support throughout Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, with local teams familiar with different areas and services.

  • Can I choose where and who I live with?

Absolutely. We believe choice and control are at the heart of good care. You’ll be supported to choose your preferred location, living arrangement, and even the people you share your home with.

  • What kinds of support do SIL workers provide?

Our SIL support workers help with daily living activities such as personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, and community engagement — all while encouraging independence.

  • Can you help me find a new home if I need one?

Yes. We can help you explore new accommodation options that match your accessibility needs, preferences, and NDIS funding.

  • What if my living needs change later on?

We understand that your situation may evolve. Our services are flexible, so we can review and adjust your accommodation support at any time to better match your goals and circumstances.

  • Are your accommodation support staff trained in disability care?

Yes. Every member of our team is trained, experienced, and NDIS-verified. We uphold the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and respect in all our accommodation services.
